Business Beat: New leadership at West Elmwood Development Corporation

West Elmwood Development Corporation,  leaders in sustainable communities through housing and economic development, announced that their Deputy Director was elevated to Director of the affordable housing agency. 

Candace Harper has been appointed the Executive Director position at West Elmwood Housing Development Corporation (WEHDC).  Candace is a leading professional in community development and brings a passion to expand our footprint and break ground on new community development and revitalization projects. “Candace brings a passion for serving our community and will play a vital role as we expand our footprint  in the West End of Providence with our revitalization projects.   

Candace is supported by a Board of Directors, WEHDC vendors, community partners and the staff says  Board President

We are well-positioned to build upon the organization’s strong foundation, and I am excited about all of the opportunities the future has in store!”  says Director Harper,  

As the agency’s lead administrator. Candace is responsible for WEHDC development of programming, strategic partnerships and oversee the management of a staffagencycarry out the strategic goals of the. works to identify, strategize, develop, and implement programs and projects that execute on the mission and values of WEHDC in conjunction with the Board of Directors. 

Prior to her elevation to Director, she served two years as Deputy Director,  Education and Training Director for the Community Action Partnership of Providence (CAPP), and the Director of Industry Partnerships for the Division of Workforce Partnerships at the Community College of Rhode Island.   

Candace community connections include serving on the Family and Community Engagement Task Force for the Providence Public Schools, core member of the Ambassador Design Team for the Rhode Island Department of Education, appointed by Governor Raimondo to the Rhode Island Family Engagement Advisory Council.  She and her husband serve as the Marriage and Family Pastors at New Dimension Apostolic Center in Providence.  She is also Vice President of the Greater Providence, RI Chapter of the Links, Incorporated, and a Life Member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, and an active member of the Theta Psi Omega Chapter in Providence.

Established in 1970, the West End Development Corporation is  a 501(c)(3) non-profit leader whose mission is to develop healthy, sustainable communities through services related to real estate and home ownership development, including lending and community building and organizing and through strategic alliances.
