In an announcement which seemed to catch the public relations staff at General Dynamics, Electric Boat by surprise, close to 6,000 people are being recruited in 2023 to work on ramping up the nation’s submarine fleet and ancillary product lines. At least 17 new submarines will be in the pipeline.

No written announcement was available, but the public relations executive offered to dictate the information to RINewsToday. The announcement was made in an early morning event with the GD president and Sen. Jack Reed.

High school grads and college grads are being recruited as well as professionals with experience. 1,500 jobs will be at Quonset. 1,300 jobs will be at Groton. 1,450 will be in engineering and design, and 1,500 will be in planning and administration. Machinists, welders, software and engineer professionals are needed.

From General Dynamics: “For more than 100 years, our employees have been pioneering and delivering the most advanced submarine capabilities, emphasizing technical excellence, innovation and responsiveness.

At Electric Boat, we value our workforce for their knowledge, hard work, dedication and pursuit of excellence and their willingness to teach our new employees everything they need to know to be successful. We will show you how to apply your skills to the art of nuclear submarine design, engineering and construction.”

“Their hiring strategy will be aggressive and continue through to 2024,” said President Kevin Graney. Jack Reed said, “the most important thing is to get people to work right now.”

Our Submarines

General Dynamics Electric Boat has been designing and building submarines since 1899, beginning with USS Holland, the U.S. Navy’s first commissioned undersea warship.

Over that time, the company has maintained its dedication to delivering the most capable submarines in the world by emphasizing technical excellence, innovation and responsiveness to customer requirements.

This emphasis enables Electric Boat to consistently develop and integrate complex systems and to deliver a long line of first-of-a-kind ships to the Navy.

While Electric Boat’s primary focus is on submarine production, the company actively participates in markets adjacent to its core business, leveraging expertise and technical innovation to naval surface ship and commercial nuclear programs.
