ART! When Weathered Walls Speak: abstract exhibition by Catherine Mansell, at Owl and Dove
The Gallery at Owl and Dove upcoming art exhibition features the Fresco and encaustic works of Catherine Mansell, from September 6tth through September 30th, 2024. “When Weathered Walls Speak” is an evocative collection that masterfully blends the beauty of weathered surfaces with the power of abstract expression.
Westerly resident Catherine Mansell has developed a unique visual language, capturing the essence of time and resilience through her intricate textures and striking abstraction. Her pieces invite viewers to explore the hidden stories within aged facades, where cracks, blemishes, and patinas narrate tales of endurance and transformation.
Mansell has exhibited her work frequently including recent showings in highly competitive exhibitions at the Providence Art Club in Providence, RI, the Salmagundi Club of New York, the Mystic Museum of Art, the Lyme Art Association, the South County Art Association, Wickford Art Association and Allied Artists of America. Her work was highlighted in a public art exhibition in 2022 at the Atrium Gallery of the Rhode Island at One Capitol Hill.
Donations of her work have benefited many nonprofits including the RISD Museum “Angels” program, South County Art Association, and Save the Bay of Rhode Island.
Active in the community, Mansell has served as a Sustaining Docent at the Rhode Island School of Design Museum since 2010 and is a previous member of the RI Watercolor Society’s Executive Board. In addition to RIWS she is an Elected Artist Member of the Connecticut Academy of Fine Arts, the Mystic Museum of Art, Rhode Island Watercolor Society, the Allied Artists of America and is an award-winning contributor to the Sumi-e Society of America.
The Owl and Dove is a new venue that provides the perfect setting to savor Mansell’s deeply personal and evocative creations. As you stroll through the exhibit, allow yourself to be transported into a realm where the abstract and the tangible coexist. Mansell’s enchanting artistry spans from the delicate hues to the rugged textures.
“When Weathered Walls Speak” promises to captivate art enthusiasts and casual visitors alike. See it first at the Westerly, Rhode Island’s September Art Stroll, Friday, September 6, 2024 from 5PM to 8PM.
The exhibit will continue through the entire month of September.
Mansell will give a casual talk explaining her process of creating her Fresco and encaustic paintings on Thursday, September 12th from 5PM-6PM, with complimentary snacks and wine. Mansell will also provide other opportunities by appointment.
