RI-based Ocean State Job Lot a U.S. Best Managed Company for Sixth Year

North Kingstown-based retailer earns “Gold Honoree” distinction for sustained excellence in management and growth

Ocean State Job Lot has been named a 2026 U.S. Best Managed Company, marking the sixth consecutive year the Rhode Island-based retailer has received the recognition from Deloitte Private and The Wall Street Journal.

The company also earned “Gold Honoree” status, a distinction awarded to companies recognized as U.S. Best Managed Companies for four to six consecutive years.

Ocean State Job Lot operates 175 stores across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and employs nearly 7,000 people. The company said the recognition reflects its performance in strategic planning, execution, workplace culture, governance, and financial strength.

This year’s Best Managed Companies honorees were also recognized for investments in digital transformation, including artificial intelligence capabilities, and for demonstrating resilience during periods of economic uncertainty.

“Being recognized as a U.S. Best Managed Company for the sixth consecutive year is a reflection of the dedication of our associates and the strength of our responsible retail model,” said Marc Perlman, co-founder and CEO of Ocean State Job Lot. “We remain focused on offering exceptional value to our customers, creating a welcoming workplace for people of all abilities and backgrounds, giving back to the communities we serve, and continuing to grow with purpose.”

According to the program sponsors, companies are evaluated by an independent panel of judges in four key areas: strategy, execution, corporate culture, and governance and financial performance.

Founded in 1977, Ocean State Job Lot reported annual sales exceeding $900 million and maintains headquarters at Quonset Business Park in North Kingstown.

In addition to its retail operations, the Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation supports a wide range of causes, including food insecurity, veterans and military families, homelessness, animal rescue, healthcare, arts programs, and education initiatives throughout the communities the company serves.
