Johnson and Wales University announces new direction…expansions and closings
This following video announcement was released Thursday afternoon by JWU Chancellor Mim L. Runey.
Future plans for Johnson & Wales University, based in Rhode Island, include evolving from a niche university in hospital and culinary arts to becoming a comprehensive university, focusing on a 6-college model with engineering and design, health and wellness, expanding arts and sciences, and new college of food innovation and technology in Providence.
JWU will continue at the Providence and Charlotte campuses but North Miami and Denver campuses will end in summer of 2021.
Runey said, “In spite of all their efforts North Miami and Denver will not be able to be self-sustaining…We share their sense of loss….as JWU closes the campuses in 2021.
North Miami has over 1,200 students, and over 1,000 students in Denver.
In the statement, it was noted that JWU has changed its physical locations and campuses several times since its founding, and decisions to open and close are done strategically and deliberately.
