The BIG DIG is on in Woonsocket – be part of planting 50,000 bulbs for spring

The BIG DIG is on in Woonsocket! In what will be their biggest beautification to date, DWC has acquired a grant in connection with BLOOM Rhode Island to plant bulbs of various flowers throughout the community.

The 2025 Hope Springs project will include 26,000 bulbs of Crocreation, 21,350 bulbs of Jetfire (daffodils) and 2,000 all aflutter mini iris flowers. This project comes shortly after the Downtown Woonsocket Collaborative received a similar Bloom RI grant to beautify River Island Art Park with trees, plants, and flowers prior to the Levitt AMP Woonsocket music series.

DWC is planning a community planting event which will be held on Sunday, October 19th from 9am to 12pm. Volunteers are encouraged to bring their own trowel (or small shovel) and buckets for the bulbs. All the bulbs are in crates that you can take to your location of choice. Pick up is also available throughout the weekend if you are unable to attend during that specific day and time.

DWC is asking the greater Woonsocket area to reach out to family, friends, company, and/or organization of who may be able to use these flowers to beautify public spaces. The benefit of planting these flowers is that they only need to be in the ground a few inches deeps, the bulbs do not require daily or weekly watering, and will bloom every year during the early spring months.
