Homeless in RI: Looking for $2,500-$20,000 Pallet Shelter sponsors. Agency staffing snapshot.

ECHO Village – to be opened by the House of Hope in Providence

House of Hope has a page on their website for ECHO Village. They describe its “Vision”, as:

“ECHO Village, a completely fenced in area will include 45 rapidly deployable units, each designated for single occupancy serving adult individuals and couples experiencing homelessness, prioritized by their unsheltered status. The unique nature of this program and House of Hope’s expertise, will make this an ideal shelter program for those with an established history of challenges to and/or high barriers in congregate or night-to-night settings.

ECHO Village will be available to serve individuals statewide through the Coordinated Outreach System as well as those encountered through regular Street Outreach efforts. ECHO Village will be staffed by House of Hope employees on a 24/7 basis, providing diverse, innovative, and person-centered programming to serve individuals experiencing homelessness in Rhode Island.”

See a brief video of Echo Village and a Pallet Shelter (from House of Hope website):

House of Hope Seeking Sponsorships for Echo Village

House of Hope is soliciting sponsorships from companies and/individuals – from Hope Giver at $2,500 to Change Maker at $5,000 to Dream Maker at $10,000 to Groundbreaker at $20,000, the funds come with “opportunities” such as being included in press releases or mentioned on social media of having a sign right at Echo Village:

Echo Village Sponsorships

Status of Echo Village, from Laura Jaworski, House of Hope Executive Director:

“The site is currently in the process of being electrified, and that in turn will allow for the water hookup to be finalized. Final site prep work is underway.

The project team and GC have been in touch with each of the relevant inspectors as each component is readied for inspection ahead of occupancy. I have hired the ECHO team, and they are undergoing orientation and training.”

When the Pallets were first proposed, this was a statement of their cost: “The project is estimated to cost approximately $3.3 million, inclusive of site improvements, pallet product and construction, on-site services, and 24-hour staffing. All the structures are temporary and reusable. Funding sources include State Fiscal Recovery Funds (SFRF) and Community Development Block Grants (CDBG), as well as City of Providence resources”.

Snapshot of staffing at Key Agencies serving the homeless

We perused a few of the agencies staffing and working primarily on the homelessness issue in Rhode Island. This is not inclusive as there are many others, some faith based such as those run by the Diocese of Providence, and some smaller nonprofits such as the Providence Rescue Mission, Open Doors, Lucy’s Hearth, etc. But these are the ones that most often come to mind:

Point-in-Time Count coming up for 2025

HUD manages what is called a Point-in-Time Count of the homeless, where every state that receives HUD funds for the homeless counts the homeless all in one day at the same time. Traditionally, given weather issues, volunteers are recruited to count some time in the last week of January. This information is then published almost one year later for planning use. The RI Coalition to End Homelessness manages this.

Set for the week of January 27th – though we cannot get confirmation of that.

House of Hope was helping my son get into transitional housing and they left him hanging with no place to live but the streets, and you never answer any phone at all, such a shame! Now they wanna step up 2 years later! No help from them at all! And that’s a sin! God help them all!
