RI GOV JOB APPROVAL RATING AIN’T GOOD

LISTEN UP folks, RI Gov. DAN MCKEE has taken a hit in the job approval dept. ACCORDING TO a new Salve Regina University Pell Center poll, he’s in trouble. GEE, I WONDER WHY? His dreadful approval ratings have hit 36%. Let me help out and try to make some sense of this for you. Here we are months and months after this guy castigated a local TV reporter for asking some really important questions about the DOT when this whole bridge debacle began, and we still don’t have answers. SO FAR, NOT ONE SOUL at DOT has been fired; we have received zero updates regarding ANY investigation into WHO’S TO BLAME for this WASHINGTON BRIDGE catastrophe AND the GOV has definitely not gone out of his comfort zone and done anything resembling a TOWN HALL Q and A where he can directly speak to his constituency, and we can directly speak to him about the hardships we have to endure because of this mess under his watch.

TO ME, he seems more prepared to protect the perpetrators of this mess than he is to protect the innocents who have to travel that bridge daily. RI DOT Director ALVITI is still employed, the GOV doesn’t know how this all came to be, and we still have heard nothing regarding his “DAY OF ACCOUNTABILTY” that he promised would be coming since MARCH. Why wouldn’t your numbers be lousy, sir? Wouldn’t you feel forgotten or let down? If you were not GOVERNOR and had to get into your AMC PACER every day and commute like the rest of us in that sideshow, don’t you think you’d be disgruntled, too? We are exhausted, broke, and disenchanted with people who claim they’re going to fix our problems, and your poll numbers REFLECT THAT. Pretty simple. Think FIRESIDE CHATS. THAT could help. Just sayin’.

I LISTEN TO LIGHT ROCK! WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO ME?

I guess this is what happens as you age. You are cruising down the highway after a colonoscopy, and you just can’t. You can’t deal with noise, or traffic, or stupid people. You’ve been on the toilet for 24 hours getting “prepped” for the exam. You’re tired, dehydrated and hungry, and just want to relax. You turn on the radio and find a song on some random station. “It’s a toe tapper” you think to yourself, and crank up the volume… 60 seconds goes by, and you start belting out – “WHAT A FEELING!!!  BEING’S BELIEVIN… I CAN HAVE IT ALL, NOW I’M DANCING FOR MY LIFE! TAKE YOUR PASSION… AND MAKE IT HAPPEN! PICTURES COME ALIVE, YOU CAN DANCE RIGHT THROUGH YOUR LIFE”!!!! – and… then you STOP SINGING! Horrified and belting out a hit from FLASHDANCE you wonder “how did I get here”? UNREAL! 

This happened to me not too long ago. Ah, life. The joys of aging. Back in the 80’s I swear, I thought VH-1 was for total and complete losers. Well, looks like I just walked through the VH-1 door. Don’t get me wrong, when I’m feeling less middle-aged, I enjoy some STEVIE RAY VAUGHN or ZEPPELIN , but mostly now, I’m exhausted and hit the pre-programmed lite rock stations. I just long for mellow and peaceful.

Even my running list leans lighter as I prep for a marathon in OCTOBER. PRAY I finish. I just want to finish before the streetlights come on… anyhow gang, you know, I’m not sad I’m older and all this craziness is happening… at least I’m still here. Still around trying to shake things up, make people think and entertain you all. I hope I do that. I mean that from the bottom of my heart.
