ART! Lydia Kinney solo show, meet and greet at Michael Rose Fine Art, Providence
The work of abstract painter, Lydia Kinney, is the subject of a solo show at Michael Rose Fine Art Project Space at 1 Meeting Street in Providence June 5 – July 5, 2024. Featuring recent works by Kinney, of Massachusetts, the show includes paintings in acrylic that are executed in the artist’s singular experimental and abstract mode. This is Kinney’s first solo exhibition in Rhode Island. The artist will be on hand for a free public meet and greet with guests on Saturday, June 15 from 6-8pm.
Based in Greenfield, Massachusetts, Kinney is a 2014 graduate of the Massachusetts College of Art and Design, where she received the 2013 Rob Moore Award. She has exhibited her work throughout New England and has participated in recent exhibitions at well-known venues including Worcester Center for Crafts, the Bromfield Gallery, and Galatea Fine Art, among others. Her work has been shared in Juniper Rag, Create! Magazine, and other publications. In 2024, she was named Artist of the Year by the Cambridge Art Association.
In her own description, Kinney favors art that articulates a relationship to self, to body, space, and form. Abstraction gives her means to illustrate the often figurative sensations of loss (future tense), alienation (physical), and doubt. The work is environmental and ornamental, with adorned views into fields of color.
Speaking of Kinney’s work, gallerist Michael Rose says, “Lydia is one of the most talented abstract artists working in New England today. Her paintings have wonderfully distinct color sensibilities and show her unique approach to surface and form. I am delighted to share her work with Rhode Islanders in this solo.”
