Homeless in RI: “Live loved…”
In this update we bring you the newsletter – “Street Sights”, Janice Luongo, managing editor. Street Sights has been around as RI’s only homeless magazine and resource guide since March of 2007. Written by and for individuals with housing insecurity, the topics are presented from this unique point of view.
This issue presents information on advocacy around rent stabilization and rent control, the difficult issue of encampments, looking forward to ECHO Village (pallet shelter homes for 45+), RIPTA transportation and the importance of the free R-line, the ACLU’s position on public commentary, and state budget concerns. The issue also informs women veterans who are homeless or in need of services where they can go, one individual’s journal, detailed, and Valentine’s Day and Ash Wednesday falling together. There are resources such as food information, and more.
This is one of the more spiritual issues we can recall, and the perspective reminds us that as much as the issues of homelessness deal with bricks and mortar and specific items, the issue is one of heart and soul.
Finally, poetry! And literary work. We read every word…
