SOMETIMES WE FALL TO 0-2
I can’t imagine any Pats fan is feeling good this week… I mean. WTH. 0-2… NO GOOD.
Bright side is we blow into MET LIFE STADIUM next week and don’t have to face Aaron Rodgers. Tough loss for a PATS team; Sunday night I thought was FINALLY on the rebound after the CAM YEAR and the Matt Patricia disaster… anyway… It got me thinking about falling to or being 0-2 and how that’s got to feel. Most sports fans would say that the Pats are out if they lose just one more game. How can that be? OUT OF IT ! The season is just starting!!!
So, the question really becomes when we apply this idea to our own lives, how do WE RESPOND when the crap in life starts blowing against a fan?
How do we respond when life feels like we’re 0-2 with a must win situation down the line? I remember visiting Mexico years ago and getting caught in a rip current. Every time I would swim up to try and get myself out of this current, I’d get just enough air before I’d be pulled back under. I remember thinking “This is it. This is how my life is going to end…. I’m drowning in MEXICO”…. But here I am today. BY the grace of God somehow I washed ashore face down in the mud. I wasn’t dead!
You see sometimes we find ourselves in situations that feel like it’s the end. We think there is no way out. There is no turning back. I’ve come to know It’s all about perspective. You must believe in yourself and believe in God. God is my father, my fortress. MY solution. It doesn’t always feel this way, but I know in my heart that’s the truth.
I believe there is still hope for the Pats. And I believe if you feel like you’re 0-2 with life or find yourself in a rip current, there is hope for you as well.
NEVER GIVE UP… the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy… never let him.

WHAT’S IN A WORD?
My dog, Hazel, had a quick check up at the vet last week. A millennial vet tech doing a check in must have used the word “awesome” at least six times when asking about her status. I later searched for synonyms for “awesome” (which shows you how boring a life I’m now leading) and stumbled upon these… breathtaking, amazing, stunning, astounding, awe-inspiring, stupendous, incredible and unbelievable. All seem a bit over the top in describing Hazel’s bowel movements and appetite. Hazel, however IS awesome.

I WEEP FOR THE FUTURE
People love to talk politics and aren’t bashful to share their opinions, but how many people actually understand how our government works? An Annenberg Constitution Day Civic Survey shows many Americans don’t know what rights are protected under the First Amendment and can’t name all three branches of government. Only 66% could name the three branches (executive, legislative and judiciary) but it IS an improvement over last year’s 47%. 77% did correctly name freedom of speech up from 63% a year ago.

OVERWORKED AND UNDERPAID
Teaching is certainly an important occupation, but a teacher’s compensation doesn’t reflect their value. Teaching jobs are one of the LOWEST PAYING occupations requiring a bachelor’s degree. WALLETHUB (which for some reason has the read butt for Little Rhody) has come out with its annual BEST and WORST states for teachers based on everything from starting salary to pensions to student to teacher ratio. The best is Virginia, while Massachusetts came in seventh best. Rhode Island came in 9th worst overall.

Jen Brien has over 20 years of radio broadcast experience having hosted shows on WPRO and WHJJ with Ron as well as her own shows on WRKO and WBZ in Boston, WXTK on Cape Cod and WHAM in Rochester, New York. Jen was born and raised in Woonsocket and served six years in the Army MP Canine Unit.
Hazel, Ron’s dog, makes regular appearances.
