Leading Ladies of Central Falls
22 high school students from Central Falls were acknowledged for their participation in the city’s new nationally-recognized Leading Ladies Initiative. Empowered to provide opportunities for future leaders – particularly girls and students of color – Police Col. Roberson and Mayor Maria Rivera launched this initiative after winning startup funding from Target.
The Initiative brings together dozens of leading professional mentors (from statewide elected officials, to corporate CEOs, to female police officers, and other “Leading Ladies”) who were matched with local students. In March, the students took part in a multi-day event focused on building leadership skills, overcoming obstacles, sound decision making, and goal setting. The students got resume support, professional headshots, workplace appropriate clothing, a $2,000 scholarship, and more. Congratulations, future leaders!
