Friday Hunting Primer – 11/26/21 – Jeff Gross

Happy Post Thanksgiving to all you folks. I hope your tables were filled abundantly and you were surrounded by family and friends. To those friends of mine who lost their spouses or partners I hope family and friends gave you comfort and warmth and good company throughout the day.
Thanksgiving was productive. Jada put up 5 pheasants and I took 2. Oddly enough, all were hens.
For those who hunted Thanksgiving I hope you came home with food to put on the table. Just like at the birth of our nation, those who hunted provided that initial fare for Thanksgiving. Often, the very young men would accompany the hunters, learning the ins and outs of how to pursue game. The girls would stay with the women and prepare the feast. Back in those days it was mainly turkey and deer and the like.
Hunters in the 1600’s and 1700’s did not have the luxury we do today of hunting pheasants. In the 21st century times have drastically changed. The men quite often do the cooking (apparently, this is an attribute single ladies are looking for). Women are becoming more and more involved in the sport of hunting. A very skilled few do both.
This hunter went from in the field with his best friend, Jada, taking 2 birds, to preparing a full course Thanksgiving meal for his elderly mom. A simple and humble meal, but a tasty one, nonetheless. A special “Thank You” to Lindsey Lombari for selling me that awesome pie from her dance class.
Now that Hunting in Rhode Island is a coed sport, many parents are taking their youngsters afield. It is great to see the pictures of proud parents and their sons and daughters out during the hunts. It is up to us parents, (I started my son and daughter at ages 7 and 6, respectively) to continue the tradition. Hunting is an all-time American sport. We must as parents allow our kids to experience the outdoors and away from the damn electronics and brainwashing. Further teaching our children about the ways of the outdoors ensures the sport for generations to come.
There are some Democrats that want to abolish all the shooting sports. Heck they want to abolish Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter to help eliminate the American way. Look what’s already been done to Halloween. Now some MSM (mainstream media) news had on a promotion, “Just skip the Turkey” the other night. By involving our families in these great outdoor sports, we will ensure America recovers and stays great and will not be divided as a minority seeks to do to us all.
Well, the primer is done, and the publishing deadline will be met. Now it is off to clean those two pheasants and finally have a piece of that Strawberry Rhubarb pie that has been watching me from the kitchen.
