5th Annual RI Quahog Week, May 17-23
Governor Dan McKee joined by DEM Director Janet Coit, Mayor Frank J. Picozzi, and commercial quahoggers from the RI Shellfishermen’s Association at a special event at the Town Dock, in Warwick, Friday afternoon, to kick off the 5th Annual Rhode Island Quahog Week.
Quahog Week, which runs May 17 to May 23, highlights the importance of Rhode Island’s wild harvest shellfish to the state’s history, traditions, and economy. As part of the week, participating restaurants and markets will feature quahog-inspired menu items and deals.
Following brief remarks by Governor McKee, Mayor Picozzi, DEM Director Coit and RI Shellfishermen’s Association President Mike McGiveney, Governor McKee and Mayor Picozzi each signed their respective Quahog Week proclamations. Participants “toasted” the occasion with a freshly harvested quahog on the half shell. Governor McKee and Mayor Picozzi will then go on a brief outing on the water with commercial quahoggers, Jody King and Dave Ghigliotti.
