“Us, We, Together, Family, Friars.” – Providence College

With a 72-51 victory over Creighton, Providence College basketball dunked the title Big East Men’s Basketball Regular Season Champions. Forty years in the hoping, with the spirit of Dave Gavitt more present than ever, Coach Ed Cooley led his team to one victory after the other. Backed by the spirit of the Providence College fans – students, parents, alums, Rhode Islanders. People flew in for the game. Thousands more watched from bars, restaurants, and homes.
Held on Senior Night, as the state and the world comes out of pandemic lockdowns, and on the cusp of a war percolating half a world away, but foremost in our minds, the team has been the best – the best of everything – and Rhode Island is having a proud moment that shines for all to see.
It’s a night that will live on forever in Providence College history. On what the Friars accomplished tonight, and how this team has showed the beauty of college basketball:
