Today! Take it Outside – East Greenwich

Today, Sunday, September 6th, the East Greenwich Chamber of Commerce will host Main Street Dining Event as part of the Take It Outside Rhode Island Initiative.

Main Street will be blocked off from traffic between Dedford St and King St. from 2/3-9pm. There will be a parking ban and towing will be enforced. Detour signage will provide alternate routes for traffic. Main Street will be completely open to traffic by 9:00 PM, and police will be present to assist with the event.

The Event features a number of shops and restaurants on Main Street using the blocked off section of Main St to serve customers with increased capacity and a small town square feel. East Greenwich coordinators hope this will become one of Rhode Island’s premier dining destination event.

Access to the waterfront from King Street for southbound traffic and from Rocky Hollow Road for north bound traffic. The Event itself will take place from 3-8:30 PM with the road closure in place from 3:00-@9:00 PM.

The ongoing joint collaboration of the Town and E.G. Chamber of Commerce will be partnering with CommerceRI to expand our outdoor use of public spaces in order to extend the fall outdoor shopping and dining experience. This initiative is part of the Governor’s Take It Outside initiative for local businesses with the operating flexibility to be outdoors, much deeper into the fall season.

In East Greenwich, their goal is to offer these Sunday experiences in September, October and possibly beyond depending on the weather and interest from the community.

Beyond the Sundays they are looking into ways to successfully utilize the sidewalk and road areas directly in front of businesses on a more routine basis. This would allow for Main Street to remain open to travel as well as provide for the added convenience of having added space to work with, directly in front of stores and restaurants.

In addition, in the coming days, the Town and Chamber will be adding sandwich board signs along Main Street encouraging those residents, shops, visitors and employees to wear a mask in all public and common spaces. This is so “everyone feel{s} protected while setting a tone of welcome and safety for those frequenting our community.”
