Christmas. Made in America. – Michael Morse
by Michael Morse, contributing writer
I found an old section of Gothic fencing in the trash, so I cut the pickets into random heights, used another picket as a base, cut another one into little bookish things, found some old paint, bought some kid’s Christmas socks, cut, hammered, nailed, drilled, painted, Googled “how to draw a choir person,” then drew faces on the pickets, used some old ribbon for scarves, put it all together, stuffed my little creation in my empty window box, dropped some pine branches and cones and a string of lights in and – Presto!
Now I have creepy people in my window singing Christmas Carols!
Give a man a Walmart gift card and he will buy a Christmas wreath made in China. Feed a man some peppermint bark or two, crank up the old Rockin’ Christmas CD, set him loose with some hand tools and a paint brush and he will make his own Christmas decorations!
Nothing says “Made in America” louder than something Made in an American shed, in a cold American backyard by an American old geezer who just wants to make his place on earth peaceful, respectful, harmonious and creative.
It’s the least I can do for the kids who need to believe that things of value don’t always come from a store, or on a screen. Little things sometimes mean a little more than the grand gesture.
Merry Christmas, everybody, and may your New Year be full of possibilities.

Mr. Morse, creepy or not, your creation of singing carolers brings back memories of holidays past when actually making our own decorations was encouraged.
Hope you continue to use your creative tendencies going forward.
Happy Holidays to you and your family!
