“Ron & Jen’s Great Escape” – 12-15-2021 – Ron St. Pierre & Jen Brien
by Ron St. Pierre & Jen Brien, commentary
WILL THE MYSTERY GUEST SIGN IN PLEASE
Thus far, Rhode Island’s GOP gubernatorial candidate cupboard is bare. Early this month House Minority Leader Blake Filippi removed his name as a potential candidate and then there were none. Nothing… nada…. zilch. RI State GOP Chair Sue Cienki says her party does have a candidate, and it’s not Filippi, but says there is no rush to let the voting public see behind the curtain. Cienki says it’s better to let the crowded field of Democrats duke it out and empty their campaign coffers early. The suspense is almost Hitchcockian… NOT.
WALLACE BOLTS
After 18 years with Fox News, Chris Wallace is leaving; and for of all places, CNN. He’ll be joining CNN’s new streaming platform CNN+ as an anchor when it launches next year. Fox has been hounded by internal conflicts reportedly stemming from disputes over its “balance” between news and commentary. Are hosts who express their opinions on subject matter they’re reporting on “journalists” in the purest sense of the word? Who can really tell anymore?
JETS AND SHARKS STINKBURGER
With little to no competition at the box office last weekend, Steven Spielberg’s movie adaptation of WEST SIDE STORY was a complete flop at the box office. Although it topped the box with $10 point five million in earnings on its opening weekend, it’s dwarfed by the $100 million plus it cost to make.
“THIS WILL BE BRIEF”
TO WHOMEVER
WHY? JUST WHY?
WHY REMAKE A CLASSIC?
WHY DON’T YOU UNDERSTAND THIS TIK TOK GENERATION?
WHO THOUGHT A 100 MILLION DOLLAR MUSICAL WAS A SWELL IDEA?
RITA MORENO? SINGING? SHE’S 90. NO MILLENNIAL KNOWS WHO THE HELL SHE IS!
HEY… SPIELBERG – ENOUGH.
WE WANT MORE DINOSAURS.
YOUR PAL,
JEN
MORE DISNEY WOKENESS
Disneyland plans to tone down Toon Town’s Jessica Rabbit as the character takes on a new gig. The sultry cartoon singer (originally voiced by actress Kathleen Turner of BODY HEAT fame) is donning a detective’s trench coat and fedora, covering up her signature strapless red dress. Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin attraction’s the latest to undergo a refurbishing to remove “outdated” and “problematic” scenes joining Pirates of the Caribbean, Splash Mountain and Jungle Cruise. Walt’s spinning in his grave.
BYE BYE TO TWO RI ICONS
Adios to East Greenwich’s BEACON DINER and the iconic KIPS on Armistice Blvd in Pawtucket. Ron was born and raised in THE BUCKET (he’s allowed to call it that as he’s in the City of Pawtucket Hall of Fame) and ordered many a “gagger” (that’s a weiner, or as his parents called them, “weinies”) ALL THE WAY (that’s with plenty of onions) with a coffee milk. Both will be missed!
