RI Weekend Weather Wrap – Aug 7/8, 2021
by Jack Donnelly, meteorologist
Saturday 8/7/21:
A typical August Saturday with warm temperatures and some humid air in place, some distant cicadas competing with the string trimmers for dominance of the summertime airwaves. We’ll see some afternoon cumulus and stratocumulus developing with the moist afternoon lift, perhaps some higher cirrus cloud cover rolling in over the top later in the day ahead of separate frontal systems edging closer to New England. Morning lows in the upper 60’s rise to the upper 80’s on southerly breezes during the day, but no significant impact as far as precipitation goes, just a prototypical midsummer’s day favoring slow backyard activities.
Sunday 8/8/21:
A squeeze play of sorts with frontal systems imposing their will on little old New England, mainly cloud cover being the fiercest of the weekend challenges as the systems encroach on us wary and rain-weary Rhodies. Morning low in the upper 60’s rise to the upper 70’s with a light southwesterly breeze on this August Sunday afternoon. We could see a widespread light shower or two in the area, and looking east in the afternoon a faint rainbow may be spotted over the distant horizon.
