RI Weekend Weather Wrap for October 1/2, 2022 – John Donnelly
by John Donnelly, meteorologist
Saturday 10/1/22:
We’ll have a full weekend of dealing with what’s left of Hurricane Ian as he winds down his trail of terror. Rain will begin Saturday morning around 6am and last through the evening, with some bouts of more intense rain in the early afternoon hours. Winds will be lighter than you’d think, northeasterly generally less than 20 mph with some higher gusts in the mix. Highs and lows will be in the low to mid 50’s.
Sunday 10/2/22:

As the rain starts to fade and scatter, winds will pick up a bit as the pressure gradient on the northwest side of the storm tightens, so we’ll see northeasterly winds gusting to around 30 mph or greater. Highs in the mid 50’s and evening lows in the upper 40’s once Ian heads further to the east and cooler air starts to fill in late

John Donnelly was born in Hialeah, Florida and moved back to Rhode Island and settled in Johnston, where he grew up until graduating from Lyndon State College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. As a child John always wanted to know how air moved, and he ran towards, not away from, thunder and lighting and various other ominous weather phenomena. He returned in 2001 to the old family neighborhood of Elmhurst where the McCabe’s, Donnelly’s, Walker’s and Callan’s have been since after the Civil War.
