RI Weather for December 23, 2022 – John Donnelly
by John Donnelly, meteorologist
Severe Winter storm continues to intensify through the morning with moderate to heavy wind driven rain. Gusts out of the southeast up to a limb-shredding range of 50-60 mph expected, so power outages are a near guarantee across most of the area. Thankfully, this will remain a rain event, because if this were snow or ice, then God help us. Morning highs weirdly in the mid to upper 50’s with evening lows plunging to the low 20’s as howling winds shift from southeasterly to southerly. Conditions calm down a bit later in the evening, but damage will be done. Buckle up!

John Donnelly was born in Hialeah, Florida and moved back to Rhode Island and settled in Johnston, where he grew up until graduating from Lyndon State College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. As a child John always wanted to know how air moved, and he ran towards, not away from, thunder and lighting and various other ominous weather phenomena. He returned in 2001 to the old family neighborhood of Elmhurst where the McCabe’s, Donnelly’s, Walker’s and Callan’s have been since after the Civil War.
