RI Weather for August 9, 2022 – John Donnelly
by John Donnelly, meteorologist
Another hot one, but this time we may get some relief as a cold front tries to move through later in the afternoon. This one has a bit more push to it with help from an upper trough passing through eastern Canada, so the chances are better for some showers at least, if not the heavier rain that we need.
High pressure from the central Canadian prairie will be dropping further southeast once the front passes, so it looks like the heat wave will be busted as well. Afternoon highs in the mid 90’s and evening lows in the mid 70’s with a wind from the southwest shifting in the evening behind the front to westerly.

John Donnelly was born in Hialeah, Florida and moved back to Rhode Island and settled in Johnston, where he grew up until graduating from Lyndon State College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. As a child John always wanted to know how air moved, and he ran towards, not away from, thunder and lighting and various other ominous weather phenomena. He returned in 2001 to the old family neighborhood of Elmhurst where the McCabe’s, Donnelly’s, Walker’s and Callan’s have been since after the Civil War.
