RI Trucking Association (RITA) Women in Trucking (WIT) Lena Daly Scholarship
Rhode Island Trucking Association (RITA) and the Women In Trucking (WIT) Foundation, a 501(c)3 non-profit affiliated with the Women In Trucking Association, are pleased to announce the creation of the RITA WIT Foundation Lena Daly Scholarship, recognizing emerging leaders in the trucking industry in the state of Rhode Island.
“It was 60 years ago that Lena Daly led RITA and served as the first Trucking Association Manager in the ATA Federation. In partnering with Women in Trucking and the Women in Trucking Foundation, we honor Lena’s legacy by furthering the careers of women in trucking with these perpetual scholarships,” said Chris Maxwell, RITA President and CEO.
“This new affiliation with RITA to establish the Lena Daly scholarship is an important step in our mission to expand educational support for women in transportation by partnering with state trucking associations and other non-profit organizations,” said WIT Foundation Past-Chair Debora Babin Katz of TrucBrush Corporation. “Lena Daly was an exceptional female leader in our industry, and we are honored to offer this scholarship twice a year to assist a female student associated with the state of Rhode Island in furthering her career in transportation,” she added.
In January, following the lead of incoming Chairman Mike Kiselica, RITA’s Board of Directors affirmed and welcomed four women – Debora Babin Katz of TrucBrush, Angela Stone of Palfinger Liftgate, Claire Viera of Consolidated Truck Equipment and Katie Werchadlo of J Line Transportion – as its newest Board members.
“Our new Board members have brought strength, an array of industry knowledge and much needed diversity to our association and Board,” said Kiselica. “I am very pleased that we are now building on that by offering scholarships to advance the careers of women in trucking while simultaneously paying homage to the great history of female leadership of RITA.”
Application deadline is May 31, 2020. For more information on the RITA WIT Foundation Lena Daly Scholarship or to apply, visit: https://www.womenintruckingfoundation.org/scholarship-info
