Rhode Island Weekend Weather, Feb. 4/5, 2023 – John Donnelly
by John Donnelly, meteorologist
Saturday 2/4/23:
Easily the coldest day on record here for this calendar date expected around sunrise, -7, old record -2. Add in winds gusting to 30 mph, and you get wind chills -30 to -40!! Just stay the hell inside unless absolutely necessary. Sunshine barely moves the needle to afternoon highs in the mid teens under mostly clear skies. Tough way to start the weekend.
Sunday 2/5/23:
Just as quickly the cold snap came in, it departs as southwesterly winds behind shifting high pressure brings in warmer air, afternoon highs expected to be in the mid 40’s from morning lows in the mid teens. Some cloud cover will roll in later in the day to act as kind of a blanket bottling in what heat is generated through the day.

John Donnelly was born in Hialeah, Florida and moved back to Rhode Island and settled in Johnston, where he grew up until graduating from Lyndon State College in 1998 with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology. As a child John always wanted to know how air moved, and he ran towards, not away from, thunder and lighting and various other ominous weather phenomena. He returned in 2001 to the old family neighborhood of Elmhurst where the McCabe’s, Donnelly’s, Walker’s and Callan’s have been since after the Civil War.
Here I sit with no heat and 3″ of water in the hallway. This water seeped into my back bedroom. I was told by an ignorant maintenance man , when asked if the heat was working and I commented on the 1 wet vac, said maintenance man told me to get back into my freezing apartment. I live in disability/elderly housing. Myself and other tennant are constantly being bullied by maintenance. This is federally funded complex. Others are afraid to say anything! What idiot did not know it was going to be frigid! I’ve seldom seen such a rip off of Federal Funding.
