Rare and Unusual Plant Sale this weekend – 32nd year at the Southside Community Land Trust

The Rare & Unusual Plant Sale returns for its 32nd year this weekend, May 18-19, at City Farm and features 20,000 city-grown, city-sown vegetable, herb, and fruit plants, including a wide variety of medicinals. All plants start using organic and regenerative practices, from seeds in their greenhouse at City Farm, Rhode Island’s longest operating urban farm. The Rare & Unusual Plant Sale also features hundreds of sought-after native perennials curated and donated by local nurseries.

Admission is free and plant prices are kept low. They also can accept SNAP/EBT, cash, credit/debit as payment for plants.

The event will be held at City Farm, 168 West Clifford Street, in Providence, both Saturday & Sunday, May 18 & 19, from 10am – 2pm. Members-only (SCLT) early access is at 9am on Saturday. The event is open to the public and free to attend.

There will be live music on both days of the Plant Sale. Some performers expected are: Circle of the Drum Chris Monti, Phil Edmonds, Mira Goodman, the ‘Mericans, Kenny Ells, Karen Isenberg, The Southside Three, featuring Raffini, Ellen, & Dan, and others.

Fruit | Herb | Veggie | Medicinal | Perennial | Natives | Rare & Unusual plants will be available, though plantings are expected to sell out and people are encouraged to come early.

The Plant Sale supports the Southside Community Land Trust’s mission and work to build equity and resiliency into Rhode Island’s food system. Purchases fund farmer training, youth and apprentice, produce prescription, community gardens, urban farms programs designed to meet the food access and economic needs of underserved communities in Providence, Pawtucket and Central Falls.
