Providence Children’s Museum summer STEM sessions

Providence Children’s Museum announced a series of Summer STEM Sessions designed to spark curiosity and foster learning through hands-on activities. These sessions will take place on select dates in July and August, offering children the opportunity to explore various aspects of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in a fun and interactive environment.

The Summer STEM Sessions for the rest of the summer will feature the following exciting activities:

July 16, 2024: Tie Dye Bandanas

Summertime is tie-dye time! Patrons will be able to tie-dye their own bandana with help from your grown-up and PCM staff. All ages are welcome.

July 18, 2024: Scribble Bots

Make your own bouncing, spinning, twirling scribble robot. This program is limited to visitors aged 4 and older.

July 30, 2024: Wind Anemometer

Patrons can measure the speed of wind with their own DIT Wind Anemometer. All ages are welcome. 

August 1, 2024: Emoji Thaumatrope

Experience the fun of optical illusions with a DIY Thaumatrope. As you spin your thaumatrope, the designs combine to make one whole image. All ages are welcome.

August 13, 2024: Solar Oven S’mores

Patrons will join PCM staff in the garden to create their own solar oven and bake some s’mores. All ages are welcome.

August 15, 2024: Paper Circuit Fireflies

Patrons will put their electrical engineering skills to the test to make a glowing firefly scene using paper circuits. Because this activity uses coin cell batteries, this program is limited to visitors aged 6 and older.

August 20, 2024: Popsicle Stick Catapults

Using their engineering skills and a little help from a grown-up, patrons will create a catapult using popsicle sticks, rubber bands, and some ingenuity. Due to the small parts associated with this activity, this program is limited to visitors ages 6 and older.

August 22, 2024: Water Balloon Drop

Patrons will construct a safety pod for their water balloons before dropping them to see which survive. Due to the small parts associated with this activity, this program is limited to visitors ages 6 and older.

The museum offers activities suitable for various age groups. While some activities are open to all ages, others are specifically designed for children ages 4 and up or 6 and up.

All Summer STEM Sessions are included with regular museum admission, providing excellent value for families looking for educational summer activities. Pre-registration for the Summer STEM sessions is encouraged as capacity is limited.

The goal of these sessions is to engage children in STEM learning activities while keeping them entertained. Children will develop critical thinking skills, creativity, and a deeper understanding of scientific concepts by participating in these hands-on experiments and projects.
