Providence Children’s Museum: Cultural Connections program hosts Irish Dance Team

Providence Children’s Museum will host Tir Na Nog Irish Dancers for its March edition of Cultural Connections on Saturday, March 16, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. and 11:20 a.m.  PCM’s Cultural Connections connects arts and humanities institutions across RI to young children, providing access to families who may otherwise not be able to experience them. This free program interprets traditional programs in an age-appropriate way, introducing families to rich learning experiences regardless of age, background, or circumstance.

The Tir Na Nog performance dancers are the only non-competitive dance troupe in Rhode Island. Performers joining PCM will consist of dancers at different stages of expertise. Each performance will consist of 3 parts that includes information about Irish Dancing, a performance from current students enrolled at Tir Na Nog, and information for families to learn about becoming an Irish dancer. Tir Na Nog strives to make a unique, fun, and family atmosphere for children to learn Irish Dance. Classes are offered in Cumberland and Cranston.

“Each month, we share a unique cultural experience for our visitors,” says Executive Director Caroline Payson. “The Irish immigrants had a significant impact on the Rhode Island community specifically highlighted in our Coming to Rhode Island exhibit with the building of Fort Adams. Irish Dance is a great way to learn more about Irish traditions – plus it’s tremendously fun.”

Providence Children’s Museum serves children and adults of all backgrounds and from all communities. Its focus is on children, ages 1 to 11, and the adults who care for them by presenting hands-on, play-based exhibits and programs that explore arts, culture and science, technology, engineering, and math.
