Pawtucket Celebrates 6th Annual Women’s History Month
The Pawtucket Women’s History Month Committee and Senator Sandra Cano announced Pawtucket’s 6th Annual Women’s History Month celebration with a series of events. The Celebration will be headlined with the International Women’s Day Celebration on Friday, March 6th at 10:00 am with registration at 9:00 a.m. at the Old Slater Mill Historic Landmark (67 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket).
“International Women’s Day has been a huge success for the past five years and we look forward to continuing this tradition,” said Senator Sandra Cano, who began the event as a City Councilor. “Women continue to achieve impressive feats in our community, and it is important that we continue to recognize these efforts at the state and local levels. I want to thank Chair Erin Dube and the Women’s History Month Committee who, once again, have gone above and beyond to make this celebration possible.”
This year, the celebration will honor women with the theme Each for Equal: an equal world is an enabled world. The meaning behind this them is that each individual is responsible for their own thoughts and actions every day. Each individual can actively choose to challenge stereotypes, fight bias, broaden perceptions, improve situations and celebrate women’s achievements. The honorees embraced the fact that each individual can work to help create a gender equal world.
During the registration hour, the RI State Archives will commemorate the Centennial of the 19th Amendment in 2020 with a pop up exhibition on the 19th amendment where student art work will be on display. The Rhode Island State Archives is pleased to announce a new “Travelling Treasures” program for 2020. This year’s theme will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the passage of the 19th amendment in 1920. The exhibit will feature records from the State Archives including petitions, letters, photographs, and the records of the Rhode Island Equal Suffrage Association. Together, these historic records explore the work for women’s suffrage in Rhode Island and tell the story of support and opposition leading up to 1920.

Each is Equal and 100 Years of the Vote. Winners will be recognized by the School Committee on Tues., March 10, at 6:30 p.m. at Jenks Middle School.
