The Kennedy Forum, begun by Patrick Kennedy has a literal step by step process for appealing denial or inequities in medical coverage for mental health, eating disorder and addiction care.
The site is full of resources that are user-friendly and give you a pathway to securing parity in care.
Access to mental health, eating disorder, and addiction care is your right. If your health plan denied services, there are ways to fight back.
The Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (the Federal Parity Law) – written by Patrick Kennedy – requires health plans cover mental health, eating disorders, and addiction benefits the same way they cover physical health.
Fair Insurance Coverage: It’s the law.
Did you know?
- Federal and state laws prohibit your health insurance plan from discrimination.
- You have the right to appeal your plan’s decision about your care or coverage.
- You have the right to appeal the claim with your plan and with an independent review organization.
- Submitting a complaint about your health plan experience will help improve the system for other families.
If this situation sounds like something that has happened to you, go to www.parityregistry.org to begin getting the care you need – remember, every time you help yourself, you are also helping those around you with similar situations who may not be able to fight back.
