Outdoors in RI – Intro to Shooting Sports 2-day class
August is National Shooting Sports Month. The Rhode Island DEM, Division of Fish & Wildlife will hold a 2-day event, August 27th and 28th from 9am to 1pm each day.
Day 1 will be located at 1B Camp E Hun Tee Place – Day 2 location will be announced the day before.
RSVP deadline is Monday, August 22nd. Register, here: https://forms.gle/kVsLTzv3J21Soqoh9
Do you think a magazine is something you read? Do you think a muzzle is something you put on your pet dog? Do you think an ejector is someone who throws disorderly people out of a private party?
The 2-day event is geared towards beginners and is also a great refresher for the more experienced. Learn all about firearms, ammunition, and most importantly safety. Instruction will include classroom learning on the first day and live fire on the second, at Rhode Island DEM’s outdoor gun range, The Great Swamp Shooting Range.
This is a free course, funded by the Pittman Robertson Act.
If you have ear and eye protection, please bring it to the course, as limited supply will be available. All other equipment provided, please do not bring your own.
Portable toilet is available on site.
Students strongly encouraged to bring their own lunch, snacks, and non-alcoholic beverages, tick and bug spray.
The shooting range is entirely outdoors with a roof covering the shooting benches. The shotgun “trap” range is entirely outdoors.
The Great Swamp Shooting Range is a no charge, public range, available to use 7 days a week, April through September, with a free permit. Permit applications and detailed information will be available at the class.
