Outdoors in RI: All electric (not), Honeybees, of hunters and steak eaters – Jeff Gross
by Jeff Gross, contributing writer
It’s Electric!?!
As of last Tuesday, the White House is banning all incandescent light bulbs. There has to be a puppeteer behind all this. There are some light bulbs that are used for heat such as incubators. This ban will negatively impact all farmers including those that raise Pheasants.
If you take a close look at the big picture this administration wants to have all power be electric, and that is not feasible. Looking back at all the sci-fi movies in the last 30 years, all power sources were electric. All vehicles in the movies were electric. Coincidence? Do not think for a minute that we are not being controlled.
What was the real reason for legalizing pot? Some stoned people have no idea what is going on right in front of their noses. The Republicans passed a bill to keep Biden’s hands off controlling gas stoves. We need to do our part in 2024. I can speak for most boaters who do not want to be forced to operate a boat that is under electric power. I can speak for most farmers who do not want their primary source of heat for their poultry broods eliminated. And, speaking personally to numerous chicken farmers, they have no intention of abiding by that mandate. Some farmers told me they tried other types of heat sources, and those other sources were declared junk.
Do not think the bans will end there. Next thing you know the White House will impose no outdoor Christmas lighting. Don’t say it cannot be done as it was imposed in 1973 and this writer’s Dad abided by it. Talk about a dark Christmas.
Bzzz….still here after all these years…
Speaking of crises, the honeybee comes to mind. Within the last 4 years the world was going to end as the population of honeybees was near extinction. That was the mantra. As it turns out Honeybees are showing up everywhere in Rhode Island. This writer has a giant Hydrangea (thank you John at Seven Cedars Farm for ID-ing the enormous tree) in his front yard and for weeks it has been populated with Honeybees. Numerous other bees are flying around the trees as well. I have yet to see a day where I cannot count a large number of Honeybees buzzing among the flowers. Ironically there is a Bee Hive restoration company located in the area that I spotted while out on a hike with Abby. Abby is also very fascinated by the Honeybees buzzing about in the ground clover in my yard as well. Crisis adverted?
2A tolerance
I have members of the 2A community condemning me for being a fan of Ronald Reagan’s. They condemn me as Reagan signed the Firearms Owners Protection Act which had an amendment inserted at the last minute that banned the purchase of actual machine guns. Not the propaganda term “assault weapon”, Reagan signed an act which banned the purchase of machine guns by civilians that one would indeed use on the battlefield – that this writer used in the military. What is hypocritical of these small numbers of 2A people is that instead of going to play GI Joe at one of their local ranges, they could use their heads and petition Congress to change that aspect of the FOPA. But instead, they would rather be keyboard warriors and condemn me. They are entitled to their opinion however; they cancelled me like two other 2A groups cancelled me in 2019. These same 3 groups have constantly complained about FB, Twitter, and Instagram cancelling them.
I now have people condemning me, maybe in an effort to cancel me, for promoting hunting to our youth. In another life I witnessed this personally as I was condemned for hunting by a steak eater. The son of the steak eater was also condemned for being a hunter as well by the steak eater. The steak eater fully admitted he was being a hypocrite as he had a nice grilled steak on the plate in front of him, but he still condemned the two of us hunters. (Rules for thee not for me…) Be it known many school systems in Pennsylvania close for the first week of hunting season so their youth can hunt. In Arkansas youngsters bagged 9,153 deer in total in 2022.
Moral to the story is don’t condemn people that support hunting while you sit down to a nice thick juicy steak. Don’t complain about being cancelled when you in the gun community do it to your own.
Next week… Jeff

I hunt and love the outdoors. I love cooking with gas but I’ll give it and also drive electric once there are enough charging stations. Open your eyes to the heat wave and disastrous rains. We need to make some small changes to preserve nature and our way of life.
