Each year in Rhode Island and across the US, companies and educators find way to celebrate “Manufacturing Day” (MFGDay) to help the younger generation see themselves in high-skills, well-paying jobs.
This year in Rhode Island, on Wednesday, October 9th, 8am to 2:30pm over 350 high school students will join over 30 companies at Farm Fresh RI, 10 Sims Avenue, in Providence for a dynamic career exploration experience – Manufacturing Day 2024, a dynamic career exploration experience.
The event organized by non-profit Polaris MEP, now in its third year, connects the next generation of workers with innovative manufacturing employers.
Showcasing their products and/or processes will be:
- Tiffany & Co. diamond-setting workbench
- Programmable robotic dogs
- A giant General Dynamics Electric Boat submarine model
- Tours of The Steel Yard and JARC Rhode Island, two leading skills training programs located adjacent to Farm Fresh RI on Sims Avenue in Providence
- Working additive manufacturing machines
- Technology currently made in RI and being used by NASA and NOAA
- Advanced metrology, textiles, foods, machines & metal working and more!
The event seeks to challenge and correct perceptions of careers in manufacturing, and inspire younger Rhode Islanders to pursue higher-skills jobs in the state.
