Minority-owned Syroya’s Bakery opens in North Providence
by Ann Clanton, contributing writer
Creative confectionery, decadent desserts and signature cupcakes with faces of historic figures adorning the top have arrived at Pastry Chef Syroya Eugene’s retail store. The first minority-owned bakery, and one if not the first minority-owned retail businesses in North Providence, Syroya’s Bakery, is open in the shopping plaza at 1860 Mineral Spring Avenue in North Providence.
What began as an idea in 2015, Syroya’s Bakery officially became a business in 2017. Surviving on bakery orders from families and friends, the Syroya’ Bakery brand flourished following the Pastry Chef’s completion of the Hope & Main signature incubation program for independent food-related companies. Hope & Main provides food businesses a low-risk opportunity to test, scale and develop without the cost and liability in equipping, managing and maintaining their own commercial facility.
The Pastry Chef, a University of Rhode Island graduate, makes history with the opening of her shop. She is the first minority owned retail bakery shop in the town.
“I’m so thrilled to finally bring my passion for creating pastries to life and having a shop in North Providence. ” says Pastry Chef Syroya Eugene. The pale pink and baby blue awning bearing “Syroya’s Bakery” name welcomes customers to a pastry case of her decorated cupcakes, traditional buttery pound cake and sweet potato and apple pies. Guests can also enjoy several of Chef Syroya’s signature creations including a custom five tier cake awaiting customers.
The pastry shop is taking online orders for custom cakes, pies and cupcakes – also for Thanksgiving – by going to their website.
Grand Opening
The Grand Opening Celebration is set for Saturday, November 5th at 11am at the bakery, 1860 Mineral Spring Avenue in North Providence.
