“Happy Birthday, Colin!” – from the Narragansett Fire Department
It was one of those lovely, unsolicited emails we love to receive but get very rarely. At this time of coronavirus strangeness, those of us who work in “news” spend more than an average amount of time gathering statistics, looking at nursing homes ravaged, and hearing of our first responders in need of PPE, who are on the front lines saving lives every day. So we loved this – and we are happy to share it.
“We live in Coventry but our son and daughter-in-law live in Narragansett with their two-year-old son Colin. My husband is a retired firefighter, and we could not be at Colin’s birthday celebration because of COVID-19. So we called the local fire chief and asked if they could send a fire truck by to wish Colin a Happy Birthday – IF it didn’t interfere with anything.
Here is the video – our daughter-in-law Stephanie Caldwell posted it on Facebook and I thought your readers might like to see it:
“Talk about bringing sunshine on a rainy day! Colin has been watching this video all morning, telling us “the fireman say Happy Birthday me!”
Thank you so much to Chief Partington of the Narragansett Fire Department and his staff for making this little boy’s second birthday one he will talk about for the rest of his life! And thank you to Grandma and Papa for coming up with the idea and organizing everything.
Quarantine life is hard, and quarantine birthdays are even harder, thank you so much for the smiles on a special day!!!
On behalf of Colin, Stephanie and Grant Caldwell,
Nancy St. Jean
