Gov. McKee to hold Washington Bridge update with RIDOT, after failed public virtual meeting
After a failed ZOOM meeting held last Friday night at 6pm – one that would last less than 12 minutes and take no questions from attendees that had been submitted, Governor McKee has set a time to update Rhode Islanders on the “Washington Bridge demolition and the new procurement for reconstruction”.
That “Update” will be held with the Governor and RIDOT at 10am, tomorrow, Tuesday, October 15th in the Governor’s State Room at the Rhode Island State House.
The Friday night ZOOM meeting became a presentation of the demolition, one people could refer to, periodically, as the demolition proceeded. You can view that, here:
In response to many complaints that the ZOOM meeting ended so quickly, without questions as was the anticipation, and was held on a Friday night of a long weekend, and on a Jewish holy day, Governor McKee released this statement:
“It is an understatement to say that I am disappointed in how the community meeting was managed last night. I have directed RIDOT to offer another session as soon as possible – one where the public can provide their feedback and ask their questions. Our number one job is to serve the people of Rhode Island, and they deserve an opportunity to share their input.”
It is unclear if Tuesday morning’s meeting is that session, or in another will be held.
What happened Friday night will more than likely be the first question dealt with? Miscommunication? Misinformation? Was the public led to believe the ZOOM was more than it was? Why do a ZOOM if no response was desired? RIDOT could simply have posted the presentation on their website. How many people were on ZOOM? How many question were submitted? All questions that deserve a clear, and speedy answer, and perhaps an apology for the snafu that took people’s time on the beginning of a holiday weekend.
Send your questions – get written response
There is now a portal for people to send their questions – which will be responded to – in writing – “as soon as we receive them” – HERE:
RIDOT has provided this QR code for easy access to their website for updates:
