Election results: President, Congress, Rhode Island races and questions
As we go to publication in the early morning hours, our team has been up all night collecting information for you. Here are election results we know now:
President-elect will be Donald Trump if all expert calls stand, and there is no reason to think they won’t. So Donald Trump will have a repeat term as President, with JD Vance as Vice President.
Electoral votes were 277 for Trump and 226 for Harris. 270 was needed to win.
Winning the popular vote? As we go to publication, Kamala Harris has 62,889,317 votes (47.4%) and Donald Trump had 67,949,503 votes (51.2%). It would be precedent setting to win both the electoral college and the popular vote.
The Republican party has returned to the working (wo)man’s party, by all measures.
The Democratic process worked and the election process saved a system that had gone out of kilter quite a bit – and we are in a period of reset.
To that end, the US Senate has flipped to Republican control. This should allow changes from the President’s desk to be easier to implement without the ping pong game of political party bantering. It is unclear if the House of Representatives will stay or also flip.

Key results are:
Mayors of Woonsocket, Cranston, Warwick, and Pawtucket were all re-elected
Constitutional Convention was rejected.
All other questions were approved.
In Massachusetts, the ballot measure that would have eventually raised the minimum wage for tipped workers to $15 per hour was shot down.

People continue to vote with their feet. MAGA is claiming a victory. Based on Trump’s constant threats, lies, misinformation, and blaming others for his own screw-ups, I ask them to show us a victory. Should Trump follow through on even 2 of his objectives, they aren’t exempt. They will pay the price, too. They have donated money, bought his junk, and sat through hours of his temper tantrums. For what? His need to feed his ego. He will sit in the Oval Office and let his hand-picked administration do what they want. He is nothing but a puppet. The child got what he wanted – adoration.
Looking at the results, this has become the norm of what was the Grand Old Party. The “I’ll do what I want” and the “don’t question me” is creeping into R.I.
The lack of common sense and comprehension is sad. Perhaps the voters need to take a literacy test before voting.
