Dr. Paul Fadale, longtime team physician of Providence Bruins, honored at dedication

UOI Orthopedic Surgeon Tended to Players’ Orthopedic Needs for 30+ Years

The Providence Bruins, the American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Boston Bruins, recently honored longtime team physician Paul Fadale, an orthopedic sports medicine surgeon at University Orthopedics, by dedicating their athletic training exam room in his name.

A foundational figure of the club’s medical team, Dr. Fadale began serving as the team physician during the Providence Bruins’ inaugural season in 1992 and remained a trusted presence behind the bench for over three decades. His unwavering dedication to player care and steadfast commitment to the team have left a lasting impact on generations of athletes and staff.

To recognize his legacy, the athletic training exam room at the Amica Mutual Pavilion has been officially named the “Dr. Paul Fadale Exam Room.” A ceremony was held in Providence to mark the occasion, with players, coaches, medical professionals, and front office staff in attendance.

“This is an incredible honor,” Dr. Fadale said. “To have my name associated with a team and an organization I’ve cared deeply about for so many years is truly humbling. It’s been a privilege to work alongside such dedicated professionals and help support the health and careers of so many outstanding athletes.”

Trent Whitfield, former Providence Bruins player and current assistant coach, shared his appreciation: “Dr. Fadale has always gone above and beyond for the players, whether it was managing injuries, answering questions, or just being a reassuring presence. He’s been a cornerstone of this organization. As a former player and now coach, I can say with confidence that his influence has made a real difference in a lot of careers, including mine.”

Dr. Fadale is also a nationally recognized orthopedic surgeon and sports medicine specialist, serving as a team physician for collegiate and professional teams across Rhode Island and beyond.
