Cranston’s St. Mary’s Feast – is back! July 14-18
To Cranstonians, summer isn’t summer until the St. Mary’s Feast bunting goes up along Park Avenue and Phenix Avenue. That’s when the excitement builds, religious or not, for the traditional event celebrating all things Italian – food, games, amusement rides, multi-generational family fun, and of course, fireworks on Sunday evening to top it all off. Homes in the vicinity will have their yards decorated and lawn chairs set up – with menus steeped in tradition for enjoyment by those who will stop by.
Founded in 1905, the St. Mary’s Feast Society began celebrations dedicated to venerating St. Mary under the title of Maria Santissima Della Civita. 2021 will mark the 116th. St. Mary’s Feast. Last year saw a scaled down event, with more of a focus on the religious core of the festival, and its Italian origins as people located in the Knightsville section of Cranston.
The St. Mary’s Feast Society thanked Council President Councilman Chris Paplauskas for donating brand new flags to line their procession route and for assisting with the hanging of the streamers in Knightsville. They have been up for awhile as excitement builds.
Plans have been announced in Cranston to further develop the cornerstone of Knightsville, including a refurbished gazebo area, outdoor restaurant features, and more. If you’ve seen the plans, the development looks to be a whole new rebirth for this area, with a water feature, strolling park at the gazebo and more.
