Cranstonians over 75: Pre-Register Fri, 1/29 for COVID-19 Vaccination

MAYOR KENNETH J. HOPKINS ANNOUNCES INITIAL ROLL OUT OF COVID-19 VACCINE IN CRANSTON

CRANSTON, RI, January 28, 2021 – Mayor Kenneth J. Hopkins has announced the initial rollout of Cranston’s COVID-19 vaccination program. The RI Department of Health has informed the City that 390 doses of the vaccine can be administered over a three day period beginning Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, February 1-3, 2021.  Cranston’s designated regional vaccination center is located at the East Greenwich Swift Community Center, 121 Pierce Street, East Greenwich, RI. Following guidance from the Rhode Island Department of Health, this phase of vaccines will be available to Cranston residents ages 75 and older.

There will be a pre-registration process to be administered by the City of Cranston. Residents interested in pre-registration are to call the Cranston Senior Services Center at (401) 780-6000 on Friday, January 29, 2021 from 9:00am to 4:00pm. At this time, due to the limited allotment of doses available during this initial phase, the vaccine will be administered to Cranston residents according to their date of birth with the 390 oldest residents given priority. RIDOH regulations require resident email addresses in order to pre-register. A government issued ID and proof of residency are also required.

Following pre-registration, qualifying applicants will be contacted by a City representative on Saturday, January 30, 2021 or Sunday, January 31, 2021 to schedule their first and second vaccination appointments. If an applicant is not contacted by a representative for registration on Saturday or Sunday, they would not have met the criteria of the first phase due to limited supply. Those applicants shall likely be eligible in the second vaccine phase, anticipated to be administered in mid-February.

Mayor Hopkins stated, “I am excited to begin the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine. I will be working diligently to make sure that every dose allocated to our City will be equitably administered. This first phase is a small yet important first step to making the City of Cranston a healthier place.”

Apparently, RI had an unexpected shipment of 5,000 doses of vaccine and chose to go to the cities/towns to distribute them. On Thursday night Cranston set up an emergency system to identify those over 75. The system was to call the senior center, though some went down to the facility on Cranston St to register. I think they will continue to use that system going forward. For next week there are only 340 or so shots available, so they filled up very quickly. I would try to call on Monday – or take a quick ride over – to see if you can get on that list. Every city and town has developed their own system, and they are summarized on today’s Coronavirus Update here. TY and good luck!

Today is Saturday, and just read this email….wow…incredible to not be made aware of this…obviously, all shots are long gone…why isn’t there an email address that one could include all the information that you are requesting….and then someone could email back with a day/time/place…why not have that option??????? [email protected]…if you are able to email me
back with information as to how to sign up for the next available shot…much appreciated….again…[email protected]…thanks!

Yes, and every other state except RI has figured it out.
—Over 75 and overdue to leave RI.

Began calling at 8:30 this morning …Heard a message that said press 0 …Busy signal for a few times when call abruptly was disconnected …
Repeated this about 30 times …Same pattern …
I live in Cranston – Am 78 years old …I want to receive the COVID vaccine …What is one to do?

    • RINewsToday on January 30, 2021 at 9:43 am

Try again on Monday – I’m sure the clinic is full right now for the first vaccination – there were only about 300 available. If you can go in to the center I’d try that, too. I saw on the news that some people drove over there and signed up in person.

I have been Calling sInce 9:00 this morning , it tells me to press 0 for the Operator when I do it hangs up on me. Every time I called, right up to 4:30, it happened How are we to register if this is the only way?

  6. Elizabeth Arouth on January 29, 2021 at 10:34 pm

Is there only one line to call for an appt? Impossible to get thru. Can I go into the center to get on the list? Let’s face it the phone system isn’t going to work!! I would expect more of Cranston .!

  7. Ann Spence on January 29, 2021 at 9:58 pm

Be persistent, I kept my phone on call back, got through, left a message , and a got a call back. I am pre registered, and will be notified when more vaccine comes in. Woman I spoke to said that they only found out this morning that their number was the pre registration number and it has been non stop.

    • RINewsToday on January 30, 2021 at 9:39 am

Send us a pic when you get your shot! Good luck

  8. Ann Spence on January 29, 2021 at 4:29 pm

#is there a reason why this is not being done on line? The line is constantly busy.
Also will this pre registration process be continuous, so all over 75 yo’s get on the list?

    • RINewsToday on January 29, 2021 at 4:36 pm

There is only 350 or so shots available in this first round, but when you can get through to that # they will register you for future vaccination clinics. Keep trying and good luck to you.

  9. Lucia DiPalma on January 29, 2021 at 3:59 pm

I WOULD LIKE TO REGISTER FOR THE VACCINE. I AM 76 YEARS OLD AND A CRANSTON RESIDENT

    • RINewsToday on January 29, 2021 at 4:35 pm

Call Cranston Sr. Center, 780-6000 – it will be hard to get through. Just know that there are a very limited amount of shots available but this is the line to register. There will be more soon. Good luck to you.

    • Lucia DiPalma on January 30, 2021 at 12:33 am

how do I get on the registration list? My address 12 103 Shirley Blvd.
Phone 941-2220, I would like to be added to the registration list. Thank you

      • RINewsToday on January 30, 2021 at 9:41 am

Lucia, I don’t want to have your address and phone # public on here so let me just say to stay tuned. We don’t know what is happening now that all the spots have been filled for this first clinic – there will be others – I would definitely call the sr. ctr on Monday and if you can go in I would do that, too.

  11. Ernesto on January 29, 2021 at 2:33 pm

Good morning, I’m Ernesto Osmena, 81yrs. old. I’m interested for the Covid 19 Vaccine. Please call me at 944-9132.
    Thank you so much.

    • RINewsToday on January 29, 2021 at 4:31 pm

You should call 780-6000 to register – the line we know is busy or not connecting – but if you can get through you can register. It goes until 4pm. Know that this first list of 350 or so will be quickly “sold out” and new vaccines will be in soon.

  12. Ralph Sturgeon on January 29, 2021 at 2:13 pm

Ok, I know that I am old, but i just commented on the system and it shows my call ate 2:09 PM. that is impossible! I called at exactly 9:00 and haven’t been able to reach anyone. Please let is lknow which extension we should be using……

  13. Ralph Sturgeon on January 29, 2021 at 2:09 pm

When I call the number listed, do I have to go to the operator? This seems to be the only way to register. Seems very poor. Please advise.

    • RINewsToday on January 29, 2021 at 4:29 pm

Yes, but we hear the lines are busy or disconnect. You can call until 4pm – just know that they are registering but there are only about 350 shots in this first round.

  14. Frank Terranova on January 29, 2021 at 10:42 am

    Hello,
I am 76 years old and on Medication of Eliquis and Diltiazem for A-Fib. I am on no way circumventing the process. I can understand there are lot of others in terrible condition. After these 390 vaccines are administered Where will the sign in take place on line or calls.

    thank you.

    • RINewsToday on January 29, 2021 at 11:58 am

As we understand it, the registration process starts today and will continue while more vaccine comes into the city – you should call this morning after 9 – sure it will be constant busy signals, but hang in there… they are going to work through the list of those over 75.

      • Joan on January 29, 2021 at 4:34 pm

I have been calling since 9 am. Busy signal each time. Hope they can fix this.

        • RINewsToday on January 29, 2021 at 4:36 pm

We hear this is a problem.

        • Nancy DeSaint on January 30, 2021 at 6:39 pm

Not a good system since one cannot get through the phone lines. Why not do an online sign-up using the same criteria and then call back the oldest 390 people. Unfortunately, I could not get through to register my 92 year old mom with under lying health conditions. What is one supposed to do?
