Cowork Cumberland offers a modern office solution
Cowork Cumberland held its grand opening recently in the town’s Diamond Hill Park. The facility was is for those who have been frustrated working from home, or local entrepreneurs and small business owners who are looking for an alternative to either working from home or an office that’s not conducive to achieving its goals.
The new facility will offer those business owners who need office, conference space or other amenities a professional setting. There are numerous rooms and offices that offer privacy and other amenities such as a dedicated key fob for entering the building, a private telephone “booth”, complementary coffee and tea service, free parking and free Wi-Fi access.
Office Manager Marybeth Young said the opportunity to help out in this area made the choice to set up shop in Cumberland very appealing. She cited Dave MacDonald, who owns the facility, for wanting to convert the facility from a prior company.
“Dave owned a number of Children’s Workshops in the state,” she said. “A few years ago, he sold most of them off and kept this site for future use. He saw the need for a coworking space in this area and made the necessary steps to turn the idea into a reality.”
Cowork Cumberland held its Grand Opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Members of the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce staff and members joined in the festivities to kick off its new location.
They offer a conference rooms that holds up to 30-plus people for meetings. There are private office spaces for those preferring an office setting and shared spaces that are conducive to partnerships and collaboration.
One aspect of the space that Young said could be a benefit is they do not offer long-term commitments. Anyone interested can obtain a day pass or use their month-to-month option. The building, located on 45 Industrial Park Drive, Suite 100, is less than 0.4 miles from Route 295 and near the Massachusetts border, provides easy access for those commuting to the center.
The facility also offers spaces for courses, classes, speaking engagements, lunch and learns and other such activities. It’s all a concerted effort to bring people and companies together and make such connections to drive business forward. Their hope is to hold such events in the fall.
Among the options individuals and companies can choose from include:
- A Dedicated Desk. This features round-the-clock access to a desk, 25 pages per month of printing and copying, wireless internet, copier and scanner usage and use of their mailing address.
- Cowork Room Membership. Grants five hours of conference room access per month.
- Flex Desk. Your desk changes as their needs change and they have the amenities of a dedicated desk.

Young cited the work of the NRI Chamber of Commerce for getting them situated. She said MacDonald worked with them previously with Children’s Workshop and was impressed with their attention to detail and being proactive in the community as reasons for partnering with them again.
MacDonald said the past partnership was a primary reason for working with them again.
“We worked with (President and CEO) Elizabeth Catucci and found her staff to be very effective in promoting the business community in general and our business specifically,” he said. “The Chamber represents a variety of companies throughout the region and having access to their network has helped us grow. We look forward working with Elizabeth in growing this venture.”
The company held a soft opening about three months ago before officially opening their doors in early June. They already enlisted several members for their office space and have interest from several others. They believe that additional word-of-mouth advertising will help educate people about this endeavor.
There are also some other non-business-related benefits to renting space, said Young.
“I looked out the window and saw a hummingbird. On another day, there was a deer. It was so random, but also a nice diversion from the normal routine,” she said.
As their literature says, “Cowork Cumberland is the modern office solution for entrepreneurs, freelancers, service providers, sales professionals, creatives, and social-minded people. Cowork members have access to premium office utilities and amenities, two meeting rooms and a conference room for events hosting up to 30 guests. Join their coworking team today!”
Cowork Cumberland is located on 45 Industrial Park Drive, Ste. 100, in Cumberland. They are open from 9:00 AM To 5:00 PM with those with key fob access to come in after those established hours.
