ART! Starting anew… 3 artists with The Artists Loop at Wanskuck Library
Through February 20th you can enjoy the display of The Artists Loop at the Wanskuck Library, 233 Veazie Street in Providence.
Open the door to a New Year – and the symbolic tradition of starting anew with photographs by Pnina Pressburger from a series inspired by the book, “The Door in the Wall” by H. G. Wells.
And the theme continues with drawings and a 2024 calendar by Alix Fuerst, a professional pencil artist based in Massachusetts. Fuerst says, “Right after earning my Bachelor of Fine Arts, I fell in love with colored pencils and started my own business specializing in realistic drawings. Since then, I’ve created numerous colored pencil portraits of pets, people, and wildlife. I am especially drawn to nature, and strive to capture the tiny details and unique character of every subject I draw. You can view more of my work on my website www.alixfuerst.com“
The third on display is “Tapestry” by Bonnie Schultz Platzer. Bonnie says, “My tapestries woven on a vertical Goblin tapestry loom have all been inspired by people I have known or photographed while l living in Africa (in Togo and Morocco in the Peace Corps and in Kenya in the 1980s) and when I was married and living in Vienna, Austria, for nine years. I have also been inspired by images in Providence, where I have lived since 1997. When I lived in Vienna, I delivered Meals on Wheels with my Austrian neighbor to try to improve my German. We delivered meals to Frau Schramm, who started to cry when I showed her the tapestry I had woven of her. She said, “You have immortalized me.” I weave because I want to capture moments and emotions that connect us, focusing on both what we share as well as what distinguishes us one from another.”

About The Artists Loop
About Artists Loop: The Artists Loop is a program that was founded and developed by Pnina Pressburger to curate displays and events, to connect artists with the public for the purpose of offering face-to-face space for conversation, to exchange feedback, and to challenge each other. Participants gather to share work and to talk about art. Invited artists make presentations and share their experience as artists. Since 2011, the Artists Loop program has offered a variety of art-related events, including exhibits, presentations by artists about their work, and workshops in art and music at venues across the state including the Rochambeau Library, East Providence Public Library (Weaver Library), Pawtucket Library, RISD Museum, Gallery Z, Dryden Gallery, Governor Henry Lippitt House Museum and Providence City Hall.
The Wanskuck branch is a lovely little neighborhood library. Well worth a visit.
Thank you for posting.
The displays are organized with Denise Brophy, manager at Wanskuck Library.
