ART! Providence Art Club: National Open Juried Exhibition and Georgia Nassikas exhibition
National Show, Georgia Nassikas Exhibition Open at Art Club June 23
The historic Providence Art Club will open its popular National Open Juried Exhibition as well as a solo exhibition of Virginia-based artist Georgia Nassikas on Sunday, June 23 from 2-4pm. Both exhibitions will continue through July 19 and visiting is free and open to the public.
The Club’s National Open Juried Exhibition, which will be on view in the Maxwell Mays and Mary Castelnovo Galleries is one of the most popular events in its exhibition calendar. This year’s show was juried by curator Michelle Millar Fisher of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. Works in a wide range of media will be on view and $6,000 in prizes will be awarded.
Speaking of the exhibition, Art Club Gallery Manager Michael Rose says, “This year’s National Show was the second most competitive that we have ever hosted, and we are very grateful to our talented juror. It is exciting to bring engaging works by contemporary artists from across the country to the Art Club’s galleries in the heart of our capital city.”
Alongside the National Show, the Art Club will host its first solo exhibition for artist Georgia Nassikas. Raised in Rhode Island, Nassikas is the daughter of United States Senator and Rhode Island Governor John Chafee. She now resides and makes art in McLean Virginia. Primarily working with encaustic, Nassikas considers her work to be “’of the earth’, pursuing elemental forms, color, symmetry, and emotion”.
