ART! In Pawtucket – Arts Festival Gallery Tours, Latino Roots Art Exhibit

The Pawtucket Arts Festival is gearing up. Beginning on September 11th with the free 2nd annual Gallery Tours, the 1st Tour check-in starts at 10:30am at Pawtucket City Hall. Parking is available in the City lot on Roosevelt Avenue.

The 2nd Tour meet up is at 1:15 pm for the Windows on Pawtucket Exhibition following by a reception at Harvest Kitchen, 2 Bayley St.

The City of Pawtucket and the Advisory Commission on Arts and Culture is set to host its first exhibit highlighting Latino artists in Pawtucket and the Blackstone Valley. “Latino Roots” is an exhibit that depicts a myriad of expressions and styles ranging from tropi-pop, photography, stylized realism, Andean mysticism, and abstract painting. Artists come from backgrounds such as Colombia, Cuba, Peru, and the Dominican Republic.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, the exhibit will run from September 12th to November 30th, 2022. An opening reception will be held at Pawtucket City Hall, Thursday September 15th from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m., 137 Roosevelt Avenue, Pawtucket. Performance “Genetica” will be actualized by Afro-Cuban artist, Evans Molina-Fernandez, in collaboration with Puerto Rican artist Jose “Facce” Maldonado from Project 401. Catering will be provided by local Venezuelan Restaurant, La Arepa.

“The City is delighted to present this first-time exhibition of Latino artists in Pawtucket and the Blackstone Valley,” said Mayor Donald R. Grebien. “As a city committed to arts and culture, we are delighted to be able to share the work from a predominant Latino community in Pawtucket.” 

“Pawtucket is the city of the arts, and we are very excited to showcase the artistic and musical talents of our Latino artists in the newly refurbished Pawtucket City Hall Gallery” states Miriam Plitt, Chairwoman of the city’s Advisory Commission on Arts and Culture.

Nilton Cardenas, local artist who played a key role in executing this exhibit says, “Through the arts we can connect and learn about other cultures, their traditions, and customs, which takes us on a magical journey into the past, so we can understand our present and our future.”
