ART! “Dear Love, PVD: A Tribute to the Heartbeat of Black History” – at Providence Place

Providence Place Celebrates Black History Month with “Dear Love, PVD: A Tribute to the Heartbeat of Black History” – Black History Month

Providence Place partnered with QDXA VISION, a local brand agency, to present “Dear Love, PVD: A Tribute to the Heartbeat of Black History,” a month-long art installation celebrating Black history, love, resilience, and triumph within Rhode Island’s Black community. This innovative exhibit, open throughout February 2025, invites visitors to engage deeply with the powerful stories that shaped Providence’s past and inspire its future.

Located at Providence Place, in the corridor to the Omni Hotel – accessible from level 2 of Providence Place, the exhibit features four digitally created pieces from QDXA Studio. Each artwork serves as a vibrant page in a heartfelt love letter to Providence’s Black history. To enhance accessibility and engagement, interactive QR codes accompany the pieces, offering written narratives, historical context, and audio recordings to ensure the stories resonate with all visitors.

“We are incredibly honored to partner with QDXA VISION to bring ‘Dear Love, PVD’ to Providence Place. This installation reflects the rich history and contributions of Providence’s Black community, and we are proud to provide a space where these stories can be celebrated and shared. We welcome everyone to experience this tribute, connect with the artwork, and join us in recognizing the resilience, love, and unity that define our city,” said John Zilliken, Senior General Manager for Providence Place.

To celebrate the installation, Providence Place hosted two reception events in the Providence Place Garden (located on L1 near Pandora and Swarovski): the first on February 7th – and the second scheduled for:

  • Closing Reception: Friday, February 28th, 4:30 PM – 7:00 PM
The closing event will honor the contributions of local Black-owned businesses and offer attendees another opportunity to connect with the vibrant community.

“It’s been time for change, and now the change is approaching. We need a voice for the voiceless and a bridge to real impact. Using art and media, we are making it happen,” said Michael Costa, owner of The Juice FM.

Providence Place is proud to support “Dear Love, PVD” as part of its commitment to fostering meaningful connections and celebrating cultural diversity. This month-long activation not only highlights the incredible talents of local Black-owned businesses but also provides a platform for reflection and appreciation of Providence’s Black history.

Providence Place invites the entire community to join in honoring this significant celebration of history, love, and resilience. Together, we can build a stronger, more connected Providence.
