ART! Catherine Mansell, of Westerly, featured in international exhibition, wins award
Rhode Island Artist Catherine Mansell featured in International Exhibition at Salmagundi Club of New York
The Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club is proud to highlight the accomplishments of a Rhode Island artist, Catherine Radix Mansell, at the 127th Annual Open Exhibit at the Salmagundi Club in New York City. Her recent artwork, entitled “All Together Now,” has received this recognition, winning the Dorothy Benz Dallas Memorial Award for Abstract Art.
This event showcases the artistic evolution and innovative works of women artists, in line with the club’s rich legacy of providing support and opportunity since 1896.
Catherine is an elected artist member of the Allied Artists of America, the Mystic Museum of Art, the Connecticut Association of Fine Art and an award-winning member of the Sumi-e Society of America. She is also an exhibiting member of South County Art Association, the Wickford Art Association, Lyme Art Association and the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club.
Catherine Mansell, of Westerly, Rhode Island, is an artist known for her minimalist style that marries abstraction with the natural world. Her work is a fusion of Asian-influenced Sumi-e style with encaustic paintings, now most often crafted on fresco substrates. Encaustic painting is an ancient technique in which pigments are mixed with heated beeswax and resin. It is a method which has been used by Greek and Egyptian artists for at least two thousand years. Catherine incorporates delicate Chinese or Japanese papers, blending archival inks with the wax to produce pieces that resonate with simplicity and depth.
The Exhibition can be viewed online or at the Salmagundi Club from now until December 7th, 2024. An award ceremony will be held to honor her achievement there at 34 5th Avenue at 12th Street, on Saturday, December 7, from 12-2 pm.
