Providence Public Schools Offer First-Ever Additional Test Date, Transportation, and Multilingual Supports for Classical High School Entrance Exam

For the first time, The Providence Public School District (PPSD) is offering a Classical High School entrance exam day field trip for Providence students who were unable to take the test in October. Also for the first time, the District is offering multilingual learners additional time to complete the exam, and is providing bilingual glossaries to multilingual learners.

These new initiatives are part of the Providence Public School District’s mission to make the Classical High School entrance exam as accessible as possible for all students.

“Every 8^th grade student in Providence should have the opportunity to take the Classical High School entrance exam,” said Providence Schools Superintendent Dr. Javier Montañez. “It should be easily accessible to everyone who wishes to take it, which is why I’m glad this initiative is getting underway this year.”

The additional exam will be administered on Thursday, November 10, at the Providence Career and Technical Academy (PCTA), during the school day from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for students who qualify for extended time. Parents or guardians of multilingual learners and students with IEP/504 Plans who are eligible for extended time will need to select whether they wish for their student to receive the extended time on the permission form for the exam.

The District is arranging for transportation for all 8^th grade students taking the exam from their Providence middle school to PCTA. Students who are not receiving extended time for the exam will be bused back to their middle school before the end of the school day. Those who are opting in for extended time to take the exam will have additional post-exam transportation options to choose from. Bagged lunches, snacks, and water will be provided for the students taking the exam.

A chaperone from each school will be designated to accompany the 8^th graders to PCTA and help with proctoring the exam. Those filling out the field trip permission form for extended time for their students are encouraged to complete the form as quickly as possible in order to receive proper accommodations and transportation services.

Las Escuelas Públicas de Providence ofrecen por primera vez fecha de examen adicional, transporte y apoyo multilingüe para el examen de admisión a Classical High School

Por primera vez, PPSD ofrece una excursión a Classical High School el día del examen para los estudiantes de Providence que no pudieron tomar el examen en octubre. También, por primera vez, el Distrito ofrece a los estudiantes multilingües tiempo adicional para completar el examen, y les brinda glosarios bilingües a los estudiantes multilingües. 

Estas nuevas iniciativas son parte de la misión de las Escuelas Públicas de Providence de hacer que el examen de admisión a Classical High School sea lo más accesible posible para todos los estudiantes. 

“Todos los estudiantes de 8º grado en Providence deberían tener la oportunidad de tomar el examen de admisión a Classical High School”, dijo el superintendente de las Escuelas de Providence, el Dr. Javier Montañez. “Debería ser de fácil acceso a todos los que desean tomarlo, por lo que me alegro que esta iniciativa se haya puesto en marcha este año”. 

El examen adicional será administrado el jueves, 10 de noviembre en Providence Career and Technical Academy (PCTA), durante la jornada escolar de 9:00 a.m. a 1:30 p.m. y de 9:00 a.m. a 4:00 p.m. para los estudiantes que califican para tiempo extendido.  Los padres o guardianes de estudiantes multilingües y estudiantes con Planes IEP/504 que son elegibles para tiempo extendido deberán seleccionar si desean que su estudiante reciba tiempo extendido en el formulario de permiso para el examen. 

El Distrito está haciendo los arreglos pertinentes de transporte para todos los estudiantes de 8º grado que tomarán el examen de su escuela intermedia de Providence a PCTA. Los estudiantes que no son elegibles para una extensión de tiempo serán transportados de regreso a su escuela intermedia antes de finalizar la jornada escolar. Aquellos que han optado por tiempo extendido para tomar el examen tendrán opciones disponibles de transporte al termino del examen. Los estudiantes que tomarán el examen se les brindará almuerzo empaquetado, bocadillos, y agua. 

Se designará un chaperón de cada escuela para acompañar a los estudiantes de 8º grado a PCTA y ayudar con la supervisión del examen. Se anima a completar el formulario de permiso para una excursión  lo más pronto posible a quienes buscan una extensión de tiempo en el examen para sus estudiantes con el fin de recibir los acomodos y servicios de transporte adecuados.
