A jewel for Cranston’s Knightsville – ahead of schedule (updated)
In the planning since pre-pandemic times, the Knightsville Park is about to be debuted – in all its glory.
“Knightsville is an amazing, historic neighborhood that holds a special place in all of our hearts. The new park will serve our community as a gathering place to have arts festivals, farmers markets, concerts, meaningful community events, and a place to show off Knightsville’s deep heritage and tradition. Knightsville is a Cranston destination full of world-class restaurants, small businesses, and over a century of celebrating St. Mary’s Feast in July.
It really is amazing to see the park come to fruition since bringing the proposal forward to the City Council back in 2019. Huge kudos to Mayor Kenneth Hopkins for not only believing in the park project from day one but for making it a priority of his administration to complete. This park doesn’t happen without the Mayor’s approval, support and his hard work. Building this new park will enhance this already special place for countless future generations to enjoy,” said Chris Paplauskas, Cranston City Council.
“Seeing this project nearing completion is incredibly exciting,” Mayor Ken Hopkins said. “Once completed, the new park at the intersection of Cranston Street, Phenix Avenue, and Park Avenue will be a gem for the residents of our city and a boon for our businesses, especially our restaurants, along this corridor of the Knightsville neighborhood.”
Ribbon cutting ahead of schedule
The project will be turned over to the city from the contractor no later than June 30th. To commemorate the occasion, Mayor Hopkins said, the city is planning a ribbon cutting and community celebration for July 8th starting at 5 p.m. Full details will be made available soon.
“We look forward to having the residents of the Knightsville neighborhood, and all of Cranston, celebrate this momentous occasion with us,” Mayor Hopkins said. “This event will be indicative of the reason for constructing this wonderful park – to engage the community and promote opportunities for our restaurants and small businesses.”

Security
“Regarding security”, Mayor Hopkins noted, “the entire park will be illuminated by decorative lighting. Importantly, the security cameras being installed will be directly fed to the Cranston Police Department.
There is also motion activated interior light of the gazebo which will turn on after dark to illuminate the structure and anyone who may be there late at night. The park benches and tables are securely bolted to the ground to prevent them from being removed, as well.”
Can’t wait for Costco they are a truly class operation. Now instead of going to the CT store at a 40 min drive I can hit this new one in 15 min.
Great job, Mayor! Truly a gem for the City of Cranston. I wish others would recognize how much you care for this great City and your hard work to revive neglected neighborhoods. Your Rolfe Street project is another winner! Soon Top Golf and Costco will add more excitement and revenue to this City?
I was sad when the park was closed up. I used to take that street to get home, just to see the lights and the Gazebo. So excited to see it restored. Thank you!
