12:00 – 12:45 PM | Beyond the Classroom: Bridging the Skills Gap through Work-Based Learning
The workforce is changing. New industries are emerging, and existing industries are shifting their practices to incorporate more digital strategies. As a result, we’re seeing a widening skills gap and a significant rise in workforce inequities locally and across the globe. How can we help close this gap and ensure our youth are given equitable access to education and training that sets them up for success in the workforce? In this panel session moderated by Nina Pande, Executive Director of Skills for Rhode Island’s Future, students, educators and employers across Rhode Island will discuss the current state of work-based learning and how the community is coming together to build sustainable solutions that will equip our future workforce with the skills needed to thrive in today’s workforce.
Speakers:
Nina Pande, Executive Director, SkillsRI (Moderator)
Wendy Wallace, PrepareRI Fellow & Charter School Program Grant Director, RIDE (Educator Perspective)
Debbie Proffitt, Vice President, DoD Operations and Business Development, Purvis Systems (Employer Perspective)
Rick Metters, Vice President, RI Regional Public Affairs and Government Relations, Fidelity Investments (Employer and Funder Perspective for the Work-Based Learning Navigator)
