Business Beat: Q&A with Michael Marcoux, new Sales Associate at Residential Properties
Residential Properties Ltd. Welcomes Sales Associate Michael Marcoux
Residential Properties Ltd. is pleased to announce that Sales Associate Michael Marcoux spent two decades living and working in Boston before returning to his native Rhode Island, bringing a deep appreciation for the state’s distinct homes, coastal communities, and architectural styles, and an understanding that real estate transactions are far more than business deals — they are major life milestones that deserve genuine compassion, total confidence, and trusted local expertise.
Here is a Q&A with Michael
Can you tell us about your professional background?
I spent many years in Boston, including serving as a corporate vice president in the financial services industry, where I developed a strong foundation in leadership, strategic thinking, communication, and managing complex priorities. I later took the entrepreneurial leap and founded my own event planning company, creating and managing weddings and events throughout the region. That experience sharpened my ability to anticipate details, solve problems, and guide clients through highly personal and important moments.
My longtime love of architecture, design, and homes ultimately led me to real estate, where those different chapters of my career came together naturally. Today, I combine the professionalism and structure of my corporate background with the creativity, attention to detail, and personalized service I brought to events — always with the goal of making the real estate experience feel thoughtful, well-managed, and distinctly personal.
What made you choose to join Residential Properties?
For me, it comes down to caliber. Residential Properties is a company I’ve admired for years — for being number one in Rhode Island real estate, for the standard it sets, its reputation, and the strength of its brand. The sophisticated marketing, exceptional agents, and level of service all match exactly how I want to represent my clients.
I also love that Resi is truly a Rhode Island company, with a presence in communities across the state and into neighboring Massachusetts, where I’m also licensed. Right away, the culture stood out to me. Every person I’ve met has been remarkably approachable, professional, and eager to collaborate. There is a strong work ethic and commitment to doing things at a high level, but also a warmth and ease that I noticed immediately. I’ve even had people tell me, “You belong at Resi,” or say, “I assumed you worked at Resi.” The more I’ve gotten to know the company, the more it has felt like a natural fit. I couldn’t be happier to have found my new home.
Where are you from originally and where do you live today?
I was born and raised in Lincoln, where I live today, and my roots here run particularly deep. My mother’s family has lived in Lincoln for generations. The historic Hannaway Blacksmith Shop at Chase Farm was my great-grandfather’s. My great-grandmother owned a penny candy store along Great Road.
I spent approximately 20 years living in Boston, and when I returned to Rhode Island, I initially settled in the Oak Hill neighborhood of Pawtucket on the East Side. I loved its combination of historic and period homes with a true pedestrian lifestyle — being able to walk to Blackstone Boulevard and to great restaurants and cafés.
Eventually I returned to Lincoln, and there’s something particularly meaningful about living and working in the community where I grew up and where my family has such a long history. My experiences in Lincoln, Boston, and Oak Hill have also given me an appreciation for very different communities and lifestyles.
What is your non-work life like?
I have a longstanding interest in homes, architecture, design, and gardens. As I mentioned, I owned an event planning company, so I’ve always enjoyed the creative side of creating spaces and experiences.
In my free time, I’m happiest working around my home and garden, tackling a new project, exploring Rhode Island, or discovering a great restaurant or neighborhood. I have a particular appreciation for the details that give a home its character. There’s usually some kind of project underway.
In what ways are you involved in the community?
I have supported the Joseph Kiley Foundation since its early years, a nonprofit created by family and friends in memory of my brother-in-law, Joe, who died from ALS in 2020. What began as a small walk among family and friends has grown into an annual community event raising funds for the Healey Center for ALS at Massachusetts General Hospital, where researchers are working to advance new treatments and ultimately find a cure.
The walk now includes representatives from Mass General who share updates on advances in ALS research, bringing a real sense of hope and purpose to the event. The cause is especially personal to me because I also lost one of my closest friends, David Wilson, to ALS. Supporting the foundation gives me a meaningful way to honor them both. Hearing about all of the positive advances being made in ALS research gives me real hope for the future.
What are your goals now that you’re with Residential Properties?
I’m looking forward to growing my business at Resi while continuing to provide the highly personalized service that has always been important to me. My goal is to deliver what I think of as a bespoke real estate experience, regardless of the home’s price point.
I want to continue expanding my business throughout Rhode Island and into Massachusetts, take my marketing and use of video and social media to another level, and keep finding new and creative ways to showcase homes and serve my clients. Most importantly, I want to build relationships that last well beyond a transaction — the kind where clients come back, refer their friends and family, and know they can always call me.
For me, growth isn’t about sacrificing personal touch; it’s about being able to bring that same level of attention, creativity, and care to more people.
