Free Dental Clinic Services at Rhode Island Mission of Mercy, Sept. 26 and 27 in Providence

The Rhode Island Oral Health Foundation, in partnership with Delta Dental of Rhode Island and Providence Community Health Centers, will host its annual Rhode Island Mission of Mercy free dental clinic on Sept. 26 and 27.

Since its launch in 2012, the annual Mission of Mercy clinic has helped provide critical dental care to thousands of local patients. Just last year, more than 600 in- need Rhode Islanders received more than $300,000 worth of donated dental services

Taking place at the Providence Community Health Centers dental clinic, the two-day Rhode Island Mission of Mercy provides free oral health services to Rhode Islanders in need. Services provided at the clinic include routine cleanings, X-rays, fillings, root canal treatments on front teeth only, tooth extractions and partial dentures (Saturday only, denture pickup will be by scheduled appointment).

Services will be provided on a first-come-first-served basis until capacity is reached. Individuals seeking services may begin to line up at 5:45 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday. Clinics run until 5:30pm.

This initiative is entirely volunteer-led, made possible by a team of more than 300 dental and medical professionals who elect to donate their time and expertise to the cause. The clinic is also supported by hundreds of community volunteers, who assist in areas such as translation services. Delta Dental of Rhode Island has served as the initiative’s premier sponsor since its inception.

What to Bring

• A list of all your current medications. On the day of the clinic, be sure to take your medications according to your prescriptions.

• Due to possible extended wait times, it is advisable to bring something to help you pass the time such as reading material, knitting, or crossword puzzles.

A Typical Day for RIMOM Patients    
Be prepared to spend the majority of your day with us. We understand that it is a long time to wait and our only request is for your patience. Ultimately we hope to serve as many patients as possible within the two-day period.

Interpreters will be available to assist non-English speaking patients.

Light Breakfast, lunch & snacks will be provided for patients at no cost.

The Normal Process That a Patient Goes Through for Care is as Follows:

• Patient arrival

• Patient registration

• Medical Triage (health history review)

• Dental Triage (dental screening to determine treatment)

• Move to assigned waiting room

• X-rays, if needed

• Dental treatment

• Patient checkout

The Dental Services Provided at RIMOM Include:

• Cleanings

• X-Rays

• Fillings

• Root canal treatment on front teeth only

• Tooth extractions

• Partial dentures

• Oral Health Instructions

RIMOM Will NOT Provide These Services:

• Small denture repairs

• Root canals on back (molar) teeth

• Extractions of impacted wisdom teeth

• Full dentures

• Caps (crowns)

• Tooth whitening

Certain medical conditions may exclude you from receiving dental treatment at the RIMOM. Medical professionals will evaluate your health to make sure you can receive dental treatment safely.
